Q1. I am interested in applying for an Ab Nicholas Scholarship. How do I begin?
A. High school seniors who meet all eligibility requirements may apply online between February 1 and April 30, 2016 for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Q2. Why do I need to have a completed FAFSA form to be considered?
A. As a need based scholarship, the foundation uses the information from the form to determine financial need. If you have not completed a form, start the process by visiting the official website at https://fafsa.ed.gov. Q3. I played basketball as a high school senior, but graduated a couple of years ago. Can I be considered for your scholarship now?
A. Only high school students who 1) participate in their basketball program as seniors and 2) are 2015 graduates are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
Q4. Can I play NCAA sports and still be eligible for an Ab Nicholas Scholarship?
A. Due to NCAA regulations, an Ab Nicholas Scholarship recipient may not participate in NCAA Division I, II or III athletics while attending a 4-year UW System school.
Q5. I have submitted a scholarship application. How will I know if I have been selected?
A. Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than July 15th, at the email address on your application.
Q6. Do you notify all students?
A. Only recipients are notified by email on July 15th by 12 noon.
Q7: The financial aid office has not yet submitted the worksheet to complete my application. How long do they have to do so?
A. The foundation will accept financial aid worksheets from school’s until June 30th.
Q8. I am a current scholarship recipient. Do I need to re-apply?
A. As a scholarship recipient, you are pre-approved and do not need to re-apply. However, you are required to renew your application each year. Visit the Ab Nicholas Scholarship Foundation home page and follow the instructions to renew. As a reminder you will need to:
- Continue to meet the requirements (attend a UW System school and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better) and
- Submit a renewal form with your first semester transcripts no later than April 30, every year
- As part of the renewal form, have a valid email address and phone number on file
- Submit your second semester transcripts by June 20, every year
Q9. How do I submit my current transcript?
A. Login to your account, fill out the Renewal Form, upload your OFFICIAL or UNOFFICIAL transcript and submit to the foundation.
Q10. I’d like to transfer to another school. Will my scholarship continue?
A. You must inform the foundation in writing at firstname.lastname@example.org of your change in schools. The scholarship will be honored as long as you: attend another UW System school, maintain performance consistent with the original award criteria, and provide your new student ID.
