FAQs

New Applicants

Q1. I am interested in applying for an Ab Nicholas Scholarship. How do I begin?

A. High school seniors who meet all eligibility requirements may apply online between February 1 and April 30 for the academic year, starting this year.

Q2. Why do I need to have a completed FAFSA form to be considered?

A. As a need based scholarship, the foundation uses the information from the form to determine financial need. If you have not completed a form, start the process by visiting the official website at https://fafsa.ed.gov. Q3. I played basketball as a high school senior, but I graduated several years ago. Can I be considered for your scholarship now?

A. No. You can only be considered for the scholarship if you (1) participated in your high school basketball program as a senior and (2) graduated at the end of the most recent school year. View complete eligibility requirements >

Q4. I have submitted a scholarship application. How will I know if I have been selected?

A. Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than June 30th, at the email address on your application.

Q5. Do you notify all students?

A. Only recipients are notified by email on June 30th by 12 noon.

Q6.  The financial aid office has not yet submitted the worksheet to complete my application. How long do they have to do so?

A. The foundation will accept financial aid worksheets until June 15th.

Q7.  How is the scholarship dispersed?

A. A check will be mailed to your school and deposited into your account.

Q8.  I haven’t received my scholarship money yet. What should I do?

A. Please reach out to your school’s bursar’s office to check on the status of your scholarship check. For additional assistance, please email info@abnsf.org.

Renewals

Q1. I am a current scholarship recipient. Do I need to re-apply?

A. As a scholarship recipient, you are pre-approved and do not need to re-apply. However, you are required to renew your application each year. Visit the Ab Nicholas Scholarship Foundation home page and follow the instructions to renew. As a reminder you will need to:

  1. Continue to meet the requirements (attend a UW System school and maintain a cumulative grade point average greater than 2.0) and
  2. Submit a renewal form with your first semester transcripts no later than April 30, every year
  3. As part of the renewal form, have a valid email address and phone number on file
  4. Submit your second semester transcripts by June 20, every year

Q2. How do I submit my current transcript?

A. Login to your account, fill out the Renewal Form, upload your OFFICIAL or UNOFFICIAL transcript and submit to the foundation.

Q3. I’d like to transfer to another school. Will my scholarship continue?

A.  You must inform the foundation in writing at info@abnsf.org of your change in schools. The scholarship will be honored as long as you:  attend another UW System school, maintain performance consistent with the original award criteria, and provide your new college student ID.

Q4. What can I spend my scholarship money on?

A. Scholarship funds should primarily be allocated toward tuition. However, any funds left over can be spent on any education-related expenses (books, room and board, etc).

Q5. Am I eligible for the scholarship if I either take a year off or transfer to a technical school?

A. No, but if you re-enroll in one of the UW System schools, you will become eligible again.
